Aktar feature

Folders that upload themselves to your bucket

Much of what you share lands in the same few places: the screenshots folder, a design tool's exports, a build's output, Downloads. Pick a folder and Aktar uploads every new file in it on its own, about 1.5 to 2 seconds after it's completely written, with that folder's own destination, path and rules.

The same upload, over and over

Take a screenshot, find the file, drag it somewhere, wait, copy the link. Export a design, do it again. Build a release, do it again. Each time it's a minute, and each time it's the same steps.

A watched folder turns those steps into nothing. The file appears, the link is on your clipboard. Any file type works, not only images, and nothing is skipped or uploaded twice.

How it works

  1. 1

    Pick a folder

Add it in Settings › Watched Folders, or right-click it in Finder and choose Watch Folder with Aktar.

  2. 2

    Give it rules

Choose its destination, path and which files count, and what happens to the original after upload.

  3. 3

    Save files there

Every new file is uploaded once it's completely written, and its link is copied.

What you get

  • Screenshots, straight to a link

Upload Screenshots Automatically watches the folder macOS saves screenshots to and copies each link as soon as it's up.

  • Nothing skipped, nothing twice

Partial downloads, temporary and hidden files are left out, files still being written are waited for, and a renamed or moved file isn't uploaded again.

  • Each folder, its own rules

Destination, path, link and Delete after per folder. {folder} and {subpath} keep the folder's structure in the bucket.

  • Deletions ask first

Delete it from the bucket too is off by default, and Ask before deleting is on. More than 50 new files at once wait for Upload or Skip.

  • Part of your workflow

A webhook or a script after every upload, with the link, the key and the file: post a build to chat or attach a screenshot to a ticket.

  • Pause when you need to

For an hour, until tomorrow or until you resume, and on battery power or metered networks if you like. Files that arrive meanwhile wait.

Which files count

Each folder decides: all files, images, videos, screenshots only, or your own patterns, with sizes and subfolders. When a file changes, Aktar can ignore it, upload it again, or replace the upload so its link stays the same. Afterwards the original can stay where it is, go to the Trash, move to an Uploaded subfolder or get an Aktar tag in Finder.

Reliable, even when Aktar isn't running

Aktar waits for as long as a file is still being written, so a slow export or a big download is never sent half done. A file that gets its real name at the end, like a finished browser download, is uploaded once it has it. Files that arrived while Aktar was closed, or while the computer was asleep or offline, are picked up when it's back, and failed uploads are retried on their own.

Faster screenshots on the Mac

macOS writes a screenshot to disk only after its floating thumbnail goes away, about 5 seconds later. Turn off Show Floating Thumbnail in the options of the Screenshot app (⇧⌘5) and the link is ready almost at once.

Questions

How fast is a new file uploaded?

About 1.5 to 2 seconds after it's completely written. Big files take as long as the upload itself, and the link is copied when it's done.

Does it work on Windows?

Yes. Aktar for Windows has watched folders with the same rules, in its Settings. The iPhone, iPad and Android apps don't, since phones don't let apps watch folders.

What if I delete a file from the folder?

By default, nothing happens to the upload. Turn on Delete it from the bucket too to remove it as well; Aktar waits 3 to 4 seconds in case an app saves by rewriting the file, and asks first unless you turn that off.

Can I control it from scripts?

Yes. The local API lists, pauses and resumes watched folders, aktar://watch/pause links do the same, and the Raycast extension manages them too.
