Aktar, free and open source
Upload files to Cloudflare R2 from your desktop
Aktar puts your R2 bucket in the menu bar. Drop a file, and a link on your custom domain or r2.dev URL is copied to your clipboard. No dashboard, no Wrangler command, no egress fees for the people who open it.
Updates arrive the day they're released. Windows may warn you, since the app isn't signed yet. How to install
R2 is great storage, but the dashboard isn't an upload tool
Cloudflare R2 is one of the best places to keep shared files: no egress fees, a generous free tier and custom domains served through Cloudflare's network. Getting a file in there is the clumsy part. The dashboard upload works, but you still have to put the public URL together yourself, and wrangler r2 object put is a lot of typing for a screenshot.
Aktar has a dedicated R2 preset. Enter your Account ID, an R2 API token and the bucket, and every file you drop becomes a link on your domain.
What you get
-
Drop and done
Drag files onto the menu bar panel, paste them or press a global shortcut. The link is copied when the upload finishes.
-
Links on your domain
Use the custom domain connected to your bucket, like
files.example.com. Read how to make an R2 bucket public. -
URL, Markdown or HTML
Copy a plain link, a Markdown image for GitHub or docs, an HTML tag, or your own template.
-
Browse the whole bucket
See every folder and file in R2, search it, preview images and PDFs, and rename, move or delete objects.
-
Auto-delete with lifecycle rules
Temporary share? Pick Delete after 1 to 30 days. With an Admin Read & Write token, Aktar adds the R2 lifecycle rules for you. See lifecycle rules.
-
Scoped R2 tokens
Use an R2 token limited to one bucket. It's stored in the Keychain and only used to sign requests to your R2 endpoint.
A closer look
Built with SwiftUI, so it feels right at home on macOS.
Browse every bucket folder by folder, search all of it, preview files and copy public or temporary links.
Record your own global shortcut, or keep the default ⌃⇧⌘U. It works even when the panel is closed.
Decide what lands on your clipboard after each upload, including your own template.
Connect a bucket in under a minute. Presets fill in the right endpoint and region for you.
How it works
- 1
Create a bucket and a token
In the Cloudflare dashboard, create an R2 bucket, connect a custom domain and create an API token with Object Read & Write.
- 2
Add it to Aktar
Choose the Cloudflare R2 preset and enter your Account ID, keys, bucket and public domain. Aktar fills in the endpoint.
- 3
Drop files, share links
Every upload goes straight to R2 and the link on your domain is copied to your clipboard.
Set up your storage
Step-by-step guides for each provider. Most take about five minutes.
Questions
Do I need a custom domain?
No. You can start with the bucket's r2.dev Public Development URL. Cloudflare rate-limits it, though, so connect a custom domain for links you share widely. Our R2 setup guide covers both.
Why does my R2 link say Access Denied?
The …r2.cloudflarestorage.com address is the S3 API endpoint and never serves public files. Use your custom domain or r2.dev URL as the Public Base URL. More in Access Denied errors.
How much does R2 cost for sharing files?
R2 charges for storage and operations but not for egress, so it doesn't matter how often a link is opened. The free tier includes 10 GB of storage per month, which covers a lot of screenshots.
Can I use R2 from my iPhone too?
Yes. Aktar for iPhone and iPad uploads to the same R2 bucket from Photos, the camera, Files and the share sheet.
