Aktar, free and open source
Turn screenshots into links on your own storage
Capture a screenshot to the clipboard, press one shortcut, and Aktar uploads it to your own bucket and copies the link. It works like a hosted screenshot service, except the files and the domain are yours.
Updates arrive the day they're released. Windows may warn you, since the app isn't signed yet. How to install
Screenshots shouldn't live on someone else's server
Hosted screenshot tools are convenient until the free plan ends, the links break, or you realize client screenshots are sitting on a service you don't control. Pasting images into chat works for one message, but not for a bug report, a pull request or documentation.
Aktar gives you the one-shortcut flow with your own storage behind it. Links point at your bucket and your domain, and they keep working as long as the file is there, even if you stop using Aktar.
What you get
-
Two shortcuts, one link
On a Mac, ⌃⇧⌘4 captures an area to the clipboard and ⌃⇧⌘U uploads it. On Windows, use Win+Shift+S, then Ctrl+Shift+Alt+U.
-
Markdown for GitHub
Set the output to Markdown and paste screenshots straight into issues, pull requests, READMEs and notes.
-
Your domain in the link
Links like
shots.example.com/2026/09/7f3c.pnglook like they belong to you, because they do. See custom domains. -
Screenshots that clean up
Sharing something for a quick review? Choose Delete after 1 or 7 days and the bucket removes it on schedule.
-
Find any old screenshot
The Library keeps a searchable history with thumbnails, so last month's screenshot is a search away.
-
Original quality
No compression and no resizing. Clipboard images are saved as PNG, files are uploaded unchanged.
A closer look
Built with SwiftUI, so it feels right at home on macOS.
Browse every bucket folder by folder, search all of it, preview files and copy public or temporary links.
Record your own global shortcut, or keep the default ⌃⇧⌘U. It works even when the panel is closed.
Decide what lands on your clipboard after each upload, including your own template.
Connect a bucket in under a minute. Presets fill in the right endpoint and region for you.

Questions
Does Aktar take the screenshot itself?
No. It uses the screenshot tools your system already has and uploads the result. Anything on the clipboard works, including a file you copied in Finder. See turn a screenshot into a link.
Is it a ShareX alternative for Mac?
For the upload part, yes: a shortcut uploads your screenshot to your own storage and copies the link. Aktar doesn't include an editor or screen recorder, so pair it with the built-in screenshot tool or your favorite capture app.
Which storage is cheapest for screenshots?
Cloudflare R2 is a popular choice because its free tier covers 10 GB and there are no egress fees. Backblaze B2 is also inexpensive. See the R2 guide or the B2 guide.
Can other people see my screenshots?
Only people who have the link, as long as the bucket's contents can't be listed publicly. File names default to random IDs, so links can't be guessed. For sensitive images, use a private bucket and temporary links.
