Aktar, free and open source
A simple S3 browser for Mac and Windows
Aktar's Library shows every folder and file in your S3-compatible buckets, not just the ones you uploaded. Search a whole bucket, preview files, copy public or presigned links, and upload, rename, move or delete without the AWS console.
Updates arrive the day they're released. Windows may warn you, since the app isn't signed yet. How to install
The web console is a slow way to look inside a bucket
Checking what's in a bucket usually means logging in to your provider's console, clicking folder by folder and waiting for each page. Every provider's dashboard is different, and none of them are built for grabbing a link quickly.
Aktar gives every bucket the same native browser, whether it lives on Amazon S3, Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, DigitalOcean Spaces or your own MinIO server.
What you get
-
Folder by folder
Move through any bucket like a file manager, one folder at a time, including files you never uploaded with Aktar.
-
Search the whole bucket
Find a file by name across every folder, not only the one you're in.
-
Quick previews
Images, PDFs, text and Markdown files open right in the Library.
-
Public or temporary links
Copy the public link, or a presigned link for 1 hour, 1 day or 7 days that also works for private buckets.
-
Manage files
Upload into any folder, rename, move and delete objects, one at a time or in bulk.
-
All your buckets in one place
Add as many destinations as you like, across providers, and switch between them in one click.
A closer look
Built with SwiftUI, so it feels right at home on macOS.
Browse every bucket folder by folder, search all of it, preview files and copy public or temporary links.
Record your own global shortcut, or keep the default ⌃⇧⌘U. It works even when the panel is closed.
Decide what lands on your clipboard after each upload, including your own template.
Connect a bucket in under a minute. Presets fill in the right endpoint and region for you.
How it works
- 1
Add your buckets
Connect each bucket once with a provider preset and its access key.
- 2
Open the Library
Pick a bucket and move through its folders, or search all of it.
- 3
Copy, preview or tidy up
Grab a link, preview a file, or rename, move and delete what you no longer need.
Set up your storage
Step-by-step guides for each provider. Most take about five minutes.
Questions
Does it work with Cloudflare R2, B2 and MinIO?
Yes. The browser works with any destination you add: Amazon S3, Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, DigitalOcean Spaces, MinIO and other S3-compatible services. See the setup guides.
What permissions does the key need?
Listing and reading need list and get permissions on the bucket. Uploading, renaming, moving and deleting also need put and delete. On R2, an Object Read & Write token covers all of it.
Is it a replacement for Cyberduck or Transmit?
For browsing buckets, previewing files and sharing links, it covers the everyday needs. It doesn't sync folders or connect to FTP or SFTP, so keep a dedicated client if you rely on those.
Can I use it in Raycast?
Yes. The Aktar extension for Raycast has a Browse Buckets command with the same features.
