Short answer
If you want to own your files and links, yes. Hosted services keep your files on their servers and your links on their domain. With Aktar, files live in your own bucket and links use your own domain.
What you get by bringing your own storage:
- No subscription. You pay your storage provider directly, usually far less than a monthly plan.
- Links that last. Your links keep working as long as your bucket exists, even if you stop using Aktar.
- Your domain. Links can use a custom domain such as
files.example.com. - Your choice of region. Keep data in the region or provider your team or clients require.
What Aktar deliberately doesn't do: view analytics, expiring links or password-protected links. Aktar uploads a file and gives you a public link; if you need access control per link, a hosted service may fit better.
