Files that find their own destination

Aktar 0.14.0 finishes three things that were half there: destinations that act as profiles, replacing a file while its link keeps working, and automation after an upload. Screenshots can go to one bucket and builds to another without picking each time, a fixed PDF can take the place of the old one under the same link, and Shortcuts can upload for you. If you're on 0.3.0 or later, Aktar offers it automatically.

The right destination, every time

In Settings › Destinations, a destination's Use For picks the kinds of files (Images, Videos, Audio, Documents, Archives) and the extensions that go there. Anything you upload without naming a destination, from the clipboard shortcut, the menu bar, Finder, the Share menu or Shortcuts, goes to the destination that claims it, with that destination's own path, link and settings, and the drop area lists where files go. Each destination can also have its own Keyboard Shortcut that uploads the clipboard straight there.

Replace a file, keep its link

Replace File… in History and the bucket view writes a new file to the same key, so every link you've shared shows the new version. The entry keeps its place with a Replaced date and a fresh thumbnail. Under Replacing Files, a Short cache time makes a replaced file show up everywhere within about a minute, and an optional Cloudflare zone ID and API token clear it from Cloudflare's cache right away.

After an upload, and in Shortcuts

After Upload runs webhooks and scripts after each upload to a destination and each replace, like a watched folder's Automation. In the Shortcuts app, Aktar now has Upload File, Upload Clipboard, Replace File and Get Recent Uploads, which return links you can pass on.

All changes in this release

New

  • Use For on each destination: file types and extensions that go there when an upload doesn't name a destination. The drop area lists where files go.
  • A Keyboard Shortcut for each destination that uploads the clipboard there.
  • Replace File… in History and the bucket view: a new file at the same key, so its link keeps working, with a Replaced date and a new thumbnail.
  • Short cache time and an optional Cloudflare cache purge for replaced files, also when a watched folder writes over its upload.
  • After Upload on each destination: webhooks and scripts after each upload and replace.
  • Shortcuts actions: Upload File, Upload Clipboard, Replace File and Get Recent Uploads.
  • Local API: replace endpoints, and uploads without a destination follow Use For. aktar replace in the CLI uses them.

Improved

  • Share to Another Device carries Use For, the cache settings, the Cloudflare token and the hooks.
