Move a destination to another device

Setting up a destination means copying an endpoint, a bucket and two long keys, and doing it again on your other Mac, your PC or your phone is the same chore. Aktar 0.12.0 adds Share to Another Device: Aktar shows the destination as a QR code, you scan it with Aktar on the other device and type a short transfer code, and the destination is there, keys included and connection tested. Every Aktar app uses the same format, and Windows, iPhone, iPad and Android get it in their next update. If you're on 0.3.0 or later, Aktar offers it automatically.

Scan, type the code, done

In Settings › Destinations, open a destination's menu and choose Share to Another Device. On the other Mac, choose Import from Another Device in Settings › Destinations or on the Welcome window, scan the QR code with the Mac's camera or paste the link, and type the transfer code, which groups itself as XXXX-XXXX-XXXX as you type. There's no form to check: the destination is saved right away with its keys in the Keychain, and Aktar runs Test Connection on its own and shows the result, with Edit if you want to change anything. aktar://import links open the same window with the link filled in.

Keys that stay locked

The QR code and the link carry the destination and its keys encrypted with AES-256-GCM, under a key made from a 12-character transfer code. That code is shown next to the QR code but is never in it or in the link, so Copy Transfer Link can go through chat or email on its own while the code travels another way. Every opening makes a new code. The window is left out of screenshots, screen recordings and screen sharing, and closes itself after 10 minutes.

Already there? Update it or add a copy

If the destination is already on the device, choose Update Existing or Add as Copy. When the imported destination points at a different endpoint or bucket, Aktar warns you first, so an update never sends your uploads somewhere else without you noticing.
